Hugo Awards

Les Hugo Awards sont un prix littéraire décerné chaque année par la World Science Fiction Society aux meilleurs récits de science-fiction et de fantasy publiés l'année précédente en langue anglaise. Existant depuis 1953, il s'agit du prix le plus prestigieux en science-fiction qui a récompensé des oeuvres telles que Farenheit 451, Le Maître du Haut Château, Dune, Neuromancien, Hyperion, etc.

La cérémonie de remise des prix 2017 aura lieu à Helsinki en Finlande le 11 août au soir à la 45ème World Science Fiction Convention.

Je remarque 2 choses : Stranger Thing, une série mise en parallèle avec des films.

Le dernier tome de The Expanse date de 2016, faut-il penser que la série est bien terminé cette fois ?
Ce qui peut être une bonne nouvelle, au moins, cela confirme que ce n'est pas une série à rallonge qui va durer encore 20ans

Par contre, je ne comprends pas le concept de "amateur" ? Un écrivain amateur, c'est quelqu'un qui ne se fait pas payer pour son travail ou qui débute dans le métier ? 

La nomination de Stranger Things est effectivement étrange, mais c'est parce que la série (étant une seule histoire continue) est nommée en entier, à l'inverse de la catégorie "meilleure présentation dramatique, format court" où ce sont des épisodes individuels qui sont primés.

Suite à un changement du système de vote après le... clusterfuck des précédentes années, il semble que la campagne de l'activiste d'extrême-droite Vox Day ait de moins en moins d'impact. Seules 50% de ces recommandations ont été nommées et certaines correspondent à des œuvres méritantes dans tous les cas. Quant aux autres, elles ne seront vraisemblablement pas lauréates.

En ce qui concerne les catégories "amateurs", ça ne concerne que les artistes et magazines (car chez les écrivains, ça n'a pas grande pertinence). Est considéré professionnel lorsque le travail représente au moins 1/4 des revenus de l'auteur.

Quant à The Expanse, le prochain volume, Persepolis Rising doit sortir le 7 décembre (et a déjà un numéro ISBN) tandis que deux autres doivent encore paraître en 2018 et 2019. Donc non, la série n'est pas terminée.
Par ailleurs, même si les volumes sont assez longs, le premier n'a été publié qu'en 2011. Si la saga se termine en 2019, ça sera loin d'être excessif. Pour comparaison, A Song of Ice and Fire a commencé en 1996 et il manque encore deux livres, tandis que la saga Ender d'Orson Scott Card a commencé en 1985 et continue encore aujourd'hui. Si on prend une saga terminée et relativement courte (Les cantos d'Hyperion de Dan Simmons), elle a commencé en 1989 et la publication s'est terminée en 1997.

On trouve aussi un album au milieu d'épisode de série dans "présentation dramatique, format court".7

Ils ont donc misé sur la forme pour les sélection et pas sur le support utilisé. C'est assez original ^^

Zut pour The Expanse, j'avais espoir que la série se termine pour découvrir le fin mot de l'histoire.
Bien que ce soit passionnant (plus que la série), je n'aime pas les séries qui se trainent aussi longtemps. Sauf si on repart sur de nouvelles intrigues indépendantes.

Les lauréats des Hugo Awards 2017 ont été annoncés.
On notera, à la vue des résultats détaillés (disponibles ici) que les œuvres promues par les Rabid Puppies se sont pour la plupart retrouvées derrière "No award", signe que cette tentative de "piratage" qui avait pourri les Hugo Awards les précédentes années est définitivement terminée, à la faveur du nouveau système de vote.

L'édition 2018 des Hugo Awards s'est terminée, et on connait maintenant les lauréats de ce prix assez attendu. Je vous reproduit ici la liste publiée sur le site officiel avec en gras le nom du lauréat pour chaque catégorie.

Une petite déception pour ma part avec l'attribution d'un Hugo Award à Wonder Woman (film que j'ai trouvé très moyen) plutôt qu'à Blade Runner 2049. Et quelques surprises, notamment les nominations d'épisodes de la série The Good Place dont j'ignorais même l'existence.

Avec un peu de retard (elle a été révélée le 18 août sur le site officiel), voici la liste des Hugo Awards 2019, avec le vainqueur en gras, comme chaque année.

La liste des nominés pour le meilleur film est, je trouve, assez pauvre, ce qui me semble révélateur de l'état de la fiction de genre au cinéma en ce moment. Si le gagnant, (Spider-Man : Into the Spiderverse) semble mérité au vu de l'avis critique général absolument dithyrambique sur ce film, je ne l'ai que très moyennement apprécié, le trouvant un peu sur-hypé.
Pour la victoire de l'épisode Janet de The Good Place, je trouve ça justifié, mais en même temps décevant quant à l'état de la SF télévisée. C'est un très bon épisode, très imaginatif, d'une série d'excellente qualité. Mais j'aimerais voir mieux, plus ambitieux tant intellectuellement qu'en termes de production.

Les lauréats de l'édition 2020 des Hugo Awards 2020 ont été révélés. Comme les années précédentes, je vous en met la liste complète des nominés ci-dessous avec le vainqueur en gras.

De manière amusante, coté audiovisuel, je n'ai vu aucun des lauréats. J'imagine que la minisérie Good Omens d'Amazon doit être très bonne, car il y avait quelques poids lourds dans la catégorie. C'est quand même assez significatif d'observer que la conclusion de la saga Star Wars n'obtient pas le prix Hugo (et c'est bien fait vu la qualité médiocre du film). Coté format court, il faudra également que je rattrape mon retard de visionnage de The Good Place, qui devait être vraiment bien car tant l'épisode final de la saison 4 de The Expanse que les deux épisodes nominés pour Watchmen (tous les deux battus) étaient très bons.

Coté romans, tout ça va surtout m'inciter à faire de nouvelles découvertes (je n'ai rien lu parmi les nominés), mais je note que The Expanse est reconnue comme "meilleure série" (de romans, hein) alors que le neuvième et dernier n'est pas encore paru. Mais de ce que j'en ai lu jusqu'ici, c'est globalement mérité.
